One of the groups I got invited to on Flickr this week was a group themed around legs. Not an unusual invite for me and it came after I published this photo today (from yesterday’s shoot):

This is the group description today, August 4th, 2010 at 1:23EST:
“The female leg is a sexual oddity. Its non-genital, nearly identical in structure to the corresponding male body part, and there is no obvious reason why it should be eroticized. Yet, through much of history, across many cultures, the female leg was hidden from sight and treated as such a taboo topic that it became an object of intense sexual obsession. In the Victorian era, the word leg was so forbidden that it couldnt be uttered in polite society. Even now, 80 years after women legs came out of hiding, their allure remains strong.”
The admin himself is such a fascinating person who has such a peculiar way of expressing himself. (Links interchangable.) I’m incredibly flattered to be invited, and, while this is all incredibly narcissistic, it makes me feel good knowing that photos I take can reach out and, in some way, resonate with another person.
As for joining the group… it’s such an intriguing theme in human sexuality and I just can’t decide if I should join. I want to. I just can’t figure out where the content is going in the group when I look at the pool. My stuff seems to fit, but I just don’t know. I think I’m going to wait a little bit before I join. I’m always bummed out when I join a group and they go a whole different way. But this group looks so interesting.
Side note: You know what I’d like to do? I’d like to have my work published at Spencer’s Gifts. I’d like to be the guy that produces that particular subset of their art. I mean, that’s exactly what I shoot.
